The project involves the construction of two buildings and the acquisition of medical and building equipment for the Fifth Peoples Hospital in the 3.8 million population city of Wuhu, southeastern Anhui Province, China. The public hospital of the class 2A specializes in medical rehabilitation and in the past has maintained close contact with German rehabilitation clinics. The project is expected to nearly double the hospitals bed capacity from 640 to 1,250. After completion of the project, up to 36,000 inpatients and up to 717,000 outpatients will be treated annually.
The total cost of the project amounts to EUR 61.3 million. Of this amount, EUR 15 million will be financed through a FC development loan, with the vast majority (EUR 12.5 million) being used to procure the medical equipment. With the remaining EUR 2.5 million, lift systems and a supply system will be procured. Due to the long term and the current interest conditions, the project is ODA-eligible and thus makes a temporary contribution to the increase in the German ODA ratio.
