Project Name Australia Indonesia Health Security Partnership
Project Detail The Australia Indonesia Health Security Partnership (AIHSP) is promoting stronger Government of Indonesia systems and coordination to prevent, detect and respond to public health and animal health threats. Health security threats remain a major concern around the world. Zika, Ebola, Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome and highly pathogenic avian influenza are just some examples of diseases that have emerged as health crises over the last decade. These diseases have left health systems and governments of the affected countries and the international health community scrambling to respond and mitigate their social and economic effects. Initially announced during the President of Indonesias state visit to Australia in February 2020, the AIHSP is a One Health initiative that cuts across human, animal and environmental health. Through the partnership, Cardnos teams are working to increase national health security in Indonesia so that women, men and communities are less at risk from emerging infectious diseases and zoonoses, thereby contributing to regional and global health security. AIHSP is a five-year program that operates both nationally and in selected provinces across Indonesia. The programs has two primary aims: Strengthen the systems in Indonesia that prevent, detect, and respond to public and animal health emergencies that results from emerging infectious diseases; and Improve national coordination of responses to national, regional, and global health threats. To meet these objectives AIHSP works in partnership with the Indonesia Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant agencies alongside the Government of Australia. Since its commencement in 2020, AIHSP has been supporting Indonesias immediate COVID-19 response as well as longer term health system reform. Initial focus areas of support have included: Disease surveillance systems, both for animals and for people Laboratory capacity and coordination Data management within the Ministry of Health Health emergency preparedness and response systems Assessment of training needs and preparation of training materials
