The refinery will have a production capacity of 200,000 barrels per day
The Zambian government said on April 19 that it had made efforts to lobby neighboring Angola to hold shares in a crude oil refinery project.
Zambian Energy Minister Peter Kapala said Zambia wanted a stake in the Lobito refinery project in Angola which would represent a capacity of 200,000 barrels per day.
The two countries signed in the second decade of April an agreement to update this partnership.
“This opportunity will ensure Zambia has continued access to oil supply on a preferential basis ,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
According to the Minister, diplomatic involvement and diversified partnerships in the energy sector, especially in the region, will lead to lower energy costs in the medium and long term.
He also said the government was closely following reports of oil discovery in neighboring Namibia as part of efforts to establish synergies with other countries in the energy sector. |
