Work Detail Panama’s public procurement department has ordered state power transmission company Etesa to reevaluate proposals in the call to draft the environmental impact study for the country’s fourth main transmission line. The decision follows the filing of claims by Consorcio Camsa-Engimore and Consorcio Energía para Panamá SGS-CEGYGSA against Etesa’s evaluation report of offers. According to the report, Camsa-Engimore along with URS Holdings and Consorcio Proyeco Diceasa Socioambiental did not fulfill minimum requirements. This left Consorcio LT4 (Typsa-Louis Berger) as the top ranked participant for the 335-day contract, followed by SGS-CEGYGSA. The 330km, 500kV Chiriquí Grande-Panamá III link will cross the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Veraguas, Colón, Coclé and Panamá, as well as the Ngäbe Buglé indigenous reserve, and initially operate at 230kV. Estimated investment reaches US$500mn. The government plans to offer the double circuit, 900-tower project under a public-private partnership. Meanwhile, Etesa general manager Carlos Mosquera Castillo appeared before the national assembly’s budget committee where he highlighted the company’s work plan for 2022 that reaches US$335mn. The investments will help advance expansion of the national interconnection grid (PESIN). BNamericas data shows that maximum demand and electricity consumption in Panama in July rose 23% and 14%, respectively, year on year and grew 4.43% and 2.5%, respectively, compared with July 2019.
