Work Detail The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) yesterday reopened the southbound portion of Quirino Bridge II in Paco, Manila to decongest the area. DPWH completed the rehabilitation and strengthening of Quirino Bridge II which was closed last May. The southbound portion of the new Quirino Bridge is a single span road measuring 27.04 meters with 8 pieces of type-4 prestressed concrete girders, three lanes measuring 3.5 meters wide each, and a one -meter wide sidewalk. It also has eight bored piles, divided into four each abutment. The Quirino Bridge is part of the Circumferential road II which makes it a vital link to the cities of Manila, Pasay, Makati and the rest of central and eastern side of Metro Manila such as the cities of Quezon, Mandaluyong, Pasig, San Juan and Marikina, as well as the province of Rizal. The DPWH also announced the Tacloban City bypass road in Leyte will open next year. The 8.23-kilometer road project, which has been carried out in five phases since 2015, is designed to decongest traffic along Maharlika highway traversing the cities of Palo and Tacloban. Construction work on the first three phases was completed last year with the remaining two phases up for completion in August 2019. The P1.183-billion high impact project also involves the construction of shoulder pavement and slope protection works to mitigate soil erosion in the area. The Tacloban City bypass Road is expected to reduce travel time from 1.5 hours to 30 minutes and benefit more or less 1,000 motorists per day.
