Sohag projects to sharply expand Egypt’s installed renewable capacity

Country targets 42% renewable power Several projects undertaken by foreign companies in the Eastern Sohag province will sharply boost Egypt’s renewable energy production and allow it to attain its energy mix target, a newspaper has reported. Addustour quoted Romani Hakeem, deputy chairman of the Solar Energy Development Association (SEDA) at Cairo Chamber of Commerce, as saying that Egypt is advancing towards 42 percent share for renewables in its energy mix by 2035. He said nearly 22 percent would be generated through solar projects and 14 percent from wind besides other renewable sources. He noted that the projects include a 10 gigawatts (GW) solar power plant by ACWA Power, another 10GW station by Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, a 5GW solar park by Norway’s Scatec and a 3GW plant by Egypt’s Orascom. Kuwait’s MEW expected to award emergency centre construction contract in Q3

The project is located in Hawalli Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy is expected to award the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for an emergency distribution network centre in Hawalli, Al Salam area by the third quarter of 2024, according to a source. The source told Zawya Projects that the EPC contract tender was issued on 31 December 2023 with a bid submission deadline of 7 May 2024. The EPC contract is expected to be awarded by end of August 2024, with the overall project completion and commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. The scope of work involves an establishing and completing a building for managing emergency distribution networks in Hawalli. Kuwait

Kuwait’s Az-Zour South Power Station gets major upgrade

Mitsubishi Power leads consortium to modernise Kuwaits Az-Zour South Power Station for increased efficiency and reduced emissions A consortium led by Mitsubishi Power with Heavy Engineering Industries and Shipbuilding Co. (HEISCO) has been awarded a major contract by Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy for the upgrade of the 2,400 megawatt (MW) capacity Az-Zour South Power Station. The contract includes the rehabilitation and upgrade of eight steam generator boilers, replacement of control systems for boilers, steam turbines and auxiliaries, Mitsubishi Power said in a press statement. The rehabilitation of the steam units aims to improve operational reliability and integrate a new Distributed Control System (DCS). Mitsubishi Power is also providing advanced environmental improvement technology solutions aiming at reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions, which aligns with the Kuwait Environmental Public Authority (KEPA) goals for emission reduction in the country. 20 private firms eye P2P renewable energy projects in Egypt

The regulations of the P2P projects were authorized by the Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) in March, the sources highlighted Around 20 private energy firms have shown interest in implementing private-to-private (P2P) renewable energy projects as part of the first stage of the private sector’s involvement in the transition phase of Egypt’s electricity market, sources at the Ministry of Electricity told Al Arabiya Business. The regulations of the P2P projects were authorized by the Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) in March, the sources highlighted. The sources added that some firms are interested in carrying out projects with capacities of more than 1,000 megawatts (MWs) within two years, with investments surpassing $1 billion.
