Work Detail Skanska’s American arm has won three contracts worth $297m; two in New York, one in Seattle. The largest, worth $119m, is to build an extra entrance to New York City’s Penn Station. The work was awarded by Vornado Realty Trust, and involves construction of the East Entrance, which will be located on the corner of 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue. A four-storey, clear glass canopy will cover escalators, a staircase, and an elevator, linking passengers to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and subway corridors. Construction has begun and will continue throughout 2020. Also in New York, Skanska USA has won a $94m deal with New York City Economic Development Corporation to build a public walkway and bike path. The East Midtown Greenway will run along the East River between East 53rd and East 61st Streets. Skanska will also install a pedestrian bridge on East 54th Street. Work on the project is due to begin in September and be completed in early 2022. In Seattle, Skanska USA has landed a $84m role with Seattle University to build the Centre for Science and Innovation. Based at the university’s campus in Seattle, Washington, the five-storey, 10,300 sq m building will house the biology, chemistry and computer science programmes. It will contain research and teaching labs and a computer science project centre. Work on the project will begin this month and be completed in April 2021.
